BAPTISMS
Baptism is one of the principal sacraments in the Episcopal Church. In baptism we become a part of the body of Christ as we are sprinkled with water in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. As parents, you are responsible for nurturing your child’s Christian life, alongside his or her godparents and the local church. As your child grows, you will share with your child the promises of baptism and enable him/her to grow in the knowledge and love of God. Please contact admin@stjlat.org to begin a conversation about scheduling a baptism at St. John's.
FUNERALS
A traditional Episcopal funeral service focuses on the hope of the resurrection. The formal liturgy is an Easter liturgy, reminding us that as Jesus was raised from the dead, so the deceased will be as well. In addition to offering funeral services, we also have plots available in our Memorial Garden. If you would like more information on funeral services, on preplanning a funeral, or on purchasing a plot in our Memorial Garden, contact admin@stjlat.org.
WEDDINGS
The sacrament of holy matrimony is provided by the church for those couples who want to make a lifelong commitment to each other before God and the community of faith. It is an opportunity to ask for God’s strength and blessing upon their life together. All those who come to this church with a wedding request will be required to meet with the clergy over a number of months on their journey toward marriage. Please contact admin@stjlat.org to begin a conversation about scheduling a wedding at St. John's.
CONFIRMATION
In confirmation, baptized persons are confirmed in the Christian faith with the laying on of hands by a bishop. In this service, we ask the Holy Spirit to bless those who come forward to reaffirm the faith they professed in baptism. Confirmation is part of a journey begun at baptism and is a time of exploration and discovery as confirmands grow in community with God and each other as well as engage in the life of the church. Contact admin@stjlat.org for more information. RECEPTION: Those who have been confirmed in other denominations by a bishop in the apostolic succession may be received into the Episcopal Church. Many people choose to be received as a way of acceding a stronger affinity with the spirituality, ethos, and practice of the Episcopal Church. Please contact admin@stjlat.org for more information. REAFFIRMATION: Those who have been baptized and confirmed in the Episcopal Church and wish to recommit themselves to the Christian life of faith may choose to reaffirm their baptismal covenant. Please contact admin@stjlat.org for more information.
