St. John's Choral Scholar Program

Rehearsals: Thursday evenings from 7:00pm to 9:00pm; Sundays from 9:15am to 10:15am Sing: Sunday mornings at 10:30am, special services and events.

St John’s of Lattingtown introduced a new Choral Scholar Program (soprano, alto, tenor and bass) in 2017 for high school seniors, undergraduate and postgraduate students to sing with St John’s Parish Choir. We are now seeking applications for the 2020 academic year.

Choral scholars must be enrolled in full-time education and are appointed for one semester; scholarships can be renewed by mutual consent and subject to meeting expectations. The regular choir rehearsal schedule is listed above. In addition, there will be Choral Evensong and concerts offerings on Sundays (dates to be determined) Choral Scholars are paid per call, with two (sometimes three) calls per week. The scholarships have a degree of flexibility, designed to suit School/College/University semesters.

Good sight-singing and aural skills
Reliable and punctual
Team player

Application process:

Letter of application detailing musical contributions and accomplishments, potential for success in the choral music profession, and professional qualifications. Two letters of recommendation, one of which must be current vocal teacher

Audition Process:

Candidates will be expected to present two contrasting songs (candidate’s choice). There will further tests to assess sight-singing, aural and theory skills. The process will take up to 20 minutes. An accompanist will be provided.
