    125 Simon+ on Betrand Russel

    Monday January 14th at 10am
    Hutton House Lecture Series

According to the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy, Bertrand Arthur William Russell (b. 1872 – d. 1970) was a British philosopher, logician, essayist, and social critic, best known for his work in mathematical logic and analytic philosophy. His most influential contributions include his defense of logicism (the view that mathematics is in some important sense reducible to logic), and his theories of definite descriptions and logical atomism. Along with G.E. Moore, Russell is generally recognized as one of the founders of analytic philosophy, and is regularly cited as being one of the two most important logicians of the twentieth century.

Join us as Father Simon Foster, Episcopal Priest at St. John’s of Lattington, gives us his take on this fascinating individual. All faiths (or none) are welcome to attend, and will undoubtedly go away enriched by this stimulating lecture/discussion.

    Fee: $20 Register: (516) 299-2580. Course 125

    Reformed Church of Locust Valley

Wednesday January 16th at 930 : worship and education with our Sister Church the Reformed Church of Locust Valley anticipating the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity(18th thru 25th January). This year we meet at St John’s. Rev Paul Quevedo, Minister and friends from LVRC join our clergy beginning with a Eucharist for Christian Unity at 930am. Jesus prayed that His friends would be one and so the two churches continue to meet and share in worship and learning together. St John’s also has good links with the local Sikh Temple and Reform Synagogue. We worship in each others Houses of worship for special interfaith liturgies. Simon+ has preached at them both and 70 Sikhs came and visited St John’s and we shared in prayer together. The word oecumenical rather than only ecumenical reminds us that we are to work for the unity of all God’s children.
