July 18th at 11:15 – FAIR meeting for Booth Chairs and all interested in working at the Fair.
You may have been aware that last year there was extra filming of events and activities in the parish during our 150th anniversary year. This was part of the overall work of the Rector and Assistant Rector in collaboration with others to ensure that there would be a record for all time showing something of St John’s history and ongoing life, mission and ministry. The idea was that this could be something all could treasure, enjoy and share with others and in the Deanery, Diocese, National and International Church . Much work has gone in to this project and there will be an official launch in due course for the congregation and wider communities. To order your own copy now in advance please let Karin our Parish Administrator know and she will reserve you a copy, priced very reasonably at $10. The DVD is of great quality and very moving. They can be given to anyone to show a parish truly alive and as an invitation to come and explore faith and the living community of the Church to potential newcomers, visitors and family and friends. In due course there will also be a parish guide book which will celebrate the beauty of this House of God and work and ministry at Lattingtown as well as postcards of the Church which can sent to friends and family wherever they may be. Please do also view the parish website at stjlat.org for insights and varying media showing the life and ministry of the parish.
Has been continuing it’s discussion around themes in the book ‘What size are God’s shoes ; kids, chaos and the spiritual life” by Father Tim Schenk. Most recently we looked at the chapter on the value of silence in our lives and that however difficult, our lives, our souls benefit when we are intentional and try to make time for silence. We talked about the different forms of noise we deal with whether that be phones, emails as well as lots else.
In the parish and wider Church we give thanks during this month in a special way for the wonderful contributions of African-Americans to religion and society. We pray and work for the day when there will be an end to all forms of prejudice on grounds of race and ethnicity.
