Father Simon at Altar

Welcome to St. John's home on the web! If this is your first visit to our website, we are so glad you are here. If you are looking for a place to explore questions about God, about life and human relationships, and about ways to engage the world around you in meaningful ways, then read on!

At St. John's, we are on a journey of discovery. As we walk together on the Christian way, we discover new things about ourselves, our neighbors, God and the world. It's exciting. We understand Christianity not as a destination, but a journey. A journey that leads to freedom and peace.

If you would like to journey with us, we would be delighted to meet you.

We worship together principally on Sunday, pray and celebrate the Eucharist Monday through Thursday mornings, and gather regularly for fellowship, Christian formation and outreach. Explore this website or call the parish office for more information.

Hope to see you in Church!

Peace be with you wherever your journey leads,

Simon+, Priest in Charge
Michael+, Curate

What is an Episcopal Church?

Episcopal churches are part of a very ancient tradition of Christian faith and practice that is very relevant today. There are many ways of being Episcopalian, but all Episcopal Churches are part of a regional diocese and The Episcopal Church, which is an international organization of churches governed by The General Convention. At St. John's, we use the Book of Common Prayer during our worship services. This book contains all we need for worship. It is full of traditional and contemporary prayers that help direct us in our daily lives and connect us with those around us as we seek to be in closer relationship with God.

What if I come from a different faith background, or none at all?

The Episcopal Church is an open place to explore questions of faith whether you believe in God, are trying to figure our what you believe, or if you believe nothing at all. You are most welcome at St. John's no matter where you are in your journey of faith.

Will I understand what's going on in the service?

If you have been to church before, whether it was protestant, Roman Catholic or non-denominational - you will recognize elements of that tradition in our liturgies. Episcopalians worship with all of our senses. In our church, you can hear, touch, taste and see God's presence all around you. No special knowledge is necessary to know what is going on in church.just relax and soak it in!

What is the "Liturgy?"

The word liturgy derives from a Greek word meaning "the work of the people." This is the word used to describe what the clergy and people do when they come together to celebrate the sacraments and worship God. This word is very important to us. It speaks to fact that we all share in worship together, whatever our role on Sunday morning.

Can I participate in the Eucharist?

The short answer is, yes! In The Episcopal Church, all baptized people are welcome to participate in receiving the Eucharist (sometimes referred to as Holy Communion). If you are not baptized and would like to become a Christian and participate in the Eucharist, speak to one of our clergy.

Are kids involved in your church?

Absolutely! We have an active Sunday School and regular events for children and youth throughout the year.

What does the Episcopal Church call its leaders?

That depends on the local church. Members of the church are usually referred to by the Christian names (first names). Clergy are referred by their first name also, or they are referred to as pastor, or sometimes father or mother depending upon local custom. If you are not sure what to call someone, feel free to ask!

How do I join?

Come worship with us and then speak to one of the clergy or a member of the parish! We would be very happy to have you as part of our community of faith.
